Walking Context: St. Augustine

This is tiny — about 0.3 square miles. Everything is 10–15 minutes on foot. Flat and pedestrian-by-design. St. George Street is car-free, while side alleys wind naturally through the historic core. Terrain is never the issue. Visitor density is. Spring (March–May) and fall (September–November) sit in the comfort zone: 70–82°F, fewer crowds, easy navigation. Summer brings heat (85°F+), humidity, and short afternoon storms — early mornings walk best. Winter stays mild (60–70°F) but grows busy around holiday events. Narrow streets feel intimate; they simply fill during peak seasons. Waterfront paths and side passages offer quieter alternatives. Walking is effortless here — finding your own route is the real skill.
